5 Ways To Overcome Self Doubt Today- Motivation Monday

Self-doubt can be a troubling and persuasive voice that holds you back.

It holds you back from seizing your opportunities.

It makes getting started or finishing things harder than they need to be.

Sure, it can sometimes be useful as it helps you to soberly see your current limitations or simply recognize a half-baked or bad idea. But mostly, it holds you back in life.

So how can you get around that, how can you overcome those times of self-doubt so that you can move forward once again?

1. Say stop.

First, when your inner doubts bubble up, be quick. Don’t let them spin out of control or grow from a whisper to a stream of discouraging sentences. Instead, talk back to that doubtful part of yourself.

In your mind, say or shout something like: No, no, no, we are not going down that road again.

By doing so you can disrupt the thought pattern and stop that inner self-doubter from taking over.

2. Look to the past and awash yourself in the memories.

Be real with yourself and ask yourself:

How many times when I doubted myself or feared something would happen did that negative thing come into reality after I still took action?

The answer for me – and probably for you too – is not very often at all.

Self-doubts are most often just monsters in your head that your mind may use to keep you from making changes and to keep you within the comfort zone.

If you look to the past and see how well things have gone many times despite those self-doubts then it become easier to let go of them or to ignore them and to focus on the more likely positive outcome and to take action.

3. Talk to someone about it.

When you keep your thoughts on the inside they can become distorted, exaggerated and not very much in line with reality or reasonable expectations.

This is very much true when it comes to self-doubting thoughts.

So let them out into the light. Talk to someone close to you about your self-doubts.

Just letting them out and saying them out loud can often help you to hear how exaggerated these thoughts have become. And by talking about those doubts with someone that is supportive you can get a change in perspective.

4. Don’t get stuck in the comparison trap.

If you compare yourself to other people all too often, to their successes and especially to their high-light reels that they share on social media then self-doubt can quickly creep up.

A better way to go about things is to compare yourself to yourself. To see how far you have come. To see what you’ve overcome.

And to see how you’ve kept going, succeeded and grown as a human being.

5. Start keeping a journal.

Keeping a journal can be a helpful habit for many reasons. When it comes to self-doubts it can help you to:

  • Keep a realistic record of your life. And help you to remember the positive things, the successes you have had and how you have overcome obstacles if you are prone to remembering things with a negative slant.
  • Gain clarity more easily. It is often easier to alleviate fears and doubts and to gain clarity if you have an issue laid out on paper or in a computer document rather than if you try to go through it all in your mind. By making lists of pros and cons, going through your thoughts and emotions and similar events from the past and by writing down different perspectives on the issue it becomes easier to find solutions and to see your challenge in a clearer and more level-headed way.

You’re Stuck In Life Because You’re Focusing On How To Have Less, Not How To Create More

There’s an old adage that you should “promote what you love instead of bashing what you hate.”

It’s not only a nicer way to exist in the world, it’s also really the only way to accomplish anything.

Some people have realized this. Others remain stuck.

When people are dissatisfied with their lives, they usually can only identify what it is they don’t want to feel.

The same thing happens after a break up, when everyone’s telling you to “let go” and “move on.” But how do you do that? How do you come to a place of neutrality over something that all but cut you in half? How do you suddenly find a sense of peace when all you can do is rack your mind over what you did wrong and what it means that the future you once imagined is no more?
The answer is that you do not decide to “let go” one day. You focus so much of your attention and time on other things, and projects, and tasks, and goals and people that, eventually, the pain fades from your memory.

This is what mentally strong people understand: change is what happens when you start building a new city, rather than standing in the ruins of what’s collapsed.

You change your life not by focusing on what you want less of, but what you want to take its place.

You figure out what you really want not through desire, but through discomfort. You identify the exact opposite of your greatest fears and worries. That’s your true dream.

You cannot release anything from your life without something to put in its place. Some people do this in a healthy way, consuming themselves with behaviors that improve their lives long-term. Others turn to coping mechanisms that ultimately erode their mental and physical wellbeing. Either way, it’s the same thing, just with different results.

It’s like if someone tells you not to think about a white elephant. That’s the only thing you’re going to want to think about.

The only way to not think about the white elephant is to think about something else.
So when it comes to enacting real change in your life, stop worrying about what you want less of, and start focusing on what you want more of.

Instead of trying to lose weight, reduce calories and generally become smaller, focus instead on having more healthy foods, more movement, more wellness, more rest, and more positive thoughts about yourself.
If you do this earnestly, the weight will take care of itself.

Instead of trying to get out of debt, focus instead on having more financial freedom, more flexibility, more peace of mind and a greater measure of security.

If you do this earnestly, the debt will take care of itself.

Instead of trying to “let go” of the past, “overcome” your greatest and deepest hurts and anxieties, focus instead on connecting with people right here and now, placing your energy into learning new skills, having more interesting experiences, and doing what makes you feel good each day.
If you do this earnestly, the grief will take care of itself.

You will never be able to lessen yourself into the life that you want. That is not how this works. You cannot expect to focus constantly on what you don’t like and don’t want and think you’re going to magically create what you do like and you do want.
The work is in understanding that your discomfort is the shadow side of your greatest desire.

If you want less weight, you want more health. If you want less debt, you want more stability. If you want less anxiety, you want more peace of mind.

When you focus on the positive aspect of the transformation, you’re actually able to achieve it.

The truth is that you can mourn, grieve, cry and revisit the details of your traumas again and again and again, but the only way you heal them and truly recover is by creating a new experience in the present moment, one that immerses you so deeply, you don’t have the mental bandwidth to even recall the past.

Time To Live

Movement, sweet motivation to keep on living. What was the point on just staying on the same place? For the young man, life was always related with movement. When he was younger, spending a long time sick in bed, made him realize the importance of live life to the fullest. What was the use in crying? Isn´t better traveling instead of just drowning in a sea filled with tears? No, it wasn´t an easy task letting go all of that sadness and bitterness caused by past wounds, but he was determined to build foundations for a better life.

And against all odds, he was able to find what he wanted. There would be no more days of just watching life pass him by. The young gentleman wanted to get a more active role on his own life, and he managed to get it. So, he just speeded his wings and flew away, as he always dreamt. Maybe some were expecting for the moment to watching him fall, but he wanted to put up some fight first. Movement, perfect spirals of movement. Now he was an important part of that rhythm of life, and nothing could hold him back anymore. It was his time to live.

The story describes my life growing up. Had to push hard to live my life and never look back to the depressing past of my life.

I hope this story will help someone today.

Life Means Looking Forward

Don’t look back. Life means looking forward, moving forward, not focusing on the past or becoming mired in the dark memories we all have. Looking back will leach the life out of you, and you will become as arid as a pillar of salt, just like Lots wife in the bible.

Jesus gave Mary Magdalene much the same message when, in the garden on the morning of the Resurrection, he told her not to cling to him, but to go and tell the disciples about him.

Let’s build the habit of sighting the future with our baby steps and not speed. We should always let go on what have happened in our lives in the past.

Better things are revealed ahead and not behind
