2 Keys to Get Rid of Strife and Live in Peace

God created us to have relationships. The most important relationship is the one we have with Him through our faith in Christ. And when we have a healthy, personal, intimate connection with God, we can have great relationships with the people in our lives.

It’s God’s will for us to live in peace and harmony with one another. 1 Peter 3:11 (AMP) says we must search for peace [with God, with self, with others] and pursue it eagerly [actively – not merely desiring it].

Having peace with others doesn’t mean we won’t ever disagree, but we must do it respectfully and avoid strife!

The dictionary defines strife as “bickering, arguing, a heated disagreement, or an angry undercurrent.”

Strife is a terrible evil spirit that creates this atmosphere, and it’s one of the greatest threats to the body of Christ. It makes you miserable and causes bickering, arguing—all sorts of things that offend people. You can sense it in the room, but nobody wants to confront it.

Strife is a trap the devil lays to destroy marriages, businesses and even churches.

It’s very important to understand strife, how dangerous it is, and how to stand against it.

The Common Culprits of Strife

Many things can cause strife, but two causes the Bible mentions are jealousy and greed. Proverbs 28:25 says, A greedy man stirs up strife, but the one who trusts in the Lord will be enriched.

Now, if you truly trust God, I can tell you there’s no need for you to ever be jealous of anybody. If you believe God loves you and has a plan for your life, and if you believe that His timing is always right, there is no need to envy a single person.

People who are greedy—who are never satisfied with what they have and always want more—stir up strife for a couple of reasons.

1. “I want this, I want that…”

Your wants can cause strife, whether it’s for a promotion, a material thing, or even a ministry. Many times people get into “works of the flesh” (trying to achieve things in their own power instead of God’s).

James 4:1 says, What leads to strife (discord and feuds) and how do conflicts…originate among you? Do they not arise from your sensual desires that are ever warring in your bodily members? When you covet what others have, your desires go unfulfilled. (AMPC)

2. “If I only had (fill in the blank) I’d be happy.” Think about this for a moment: How consistently content are you? Are you constantly telling God, “If only I had (this or that) I’d be happy”?

When people are dissatisfied, they tend to cause trouble. Think about how easy it is to be resentful and stir up strife when you don’t get what you want. You can get critical of others real quick, but it’s not other people or circumstances that make you unsatisfied. It is a lack of trust that God will provide what is best for you. (See Psalm 37:4)

Two Ways to Keep Strife Out of Your Life

Consider who you spend your time with. I want to ask you a question: What kind of character do your friends have? Think about the people you eat lunch with at work or those you consider your closest friends. Do they gossip? Are their attitudes generally negative or positive?

Now, we aren’t supposed to cut ourselves off from everybody who isn’t a Christian, and there will be people you need to reach so you can lead them to Christ. But I always tell people, “Make sure you are affecting the people you spend time with instead of letting them infect you.” There’s a big difference.

Guard your heart. You are influenced and become like those you spend time with and what you open your heart to. For example, when I’m around someone who is negative, I guard my heart because you cannot leave the doors of your heart wide open to people who are greedy, jealous, critical or judgmental. If you’re open to that stuff, it’s more likely you will pick up those negative attitudes and mindsets.

Here’s the Bottom Line on Strife

Being greedy, covetous and jealous is actually a very serious sin. Exodus 20:17 says, You shall not covet… It’s not God’s will for us to want what other people have. There’s nothing wrong with thinking of things you want to have one day. But it becomes wrong when you have a bad attitude attached to it.

When you see someone who has something you want, instead of being jealous about what they have, ask God to help you be genuinely happy for them. In the meantime, keep all the strife out of your life and be a blessing wherever you go.

100 Years From Now

In the year 2119, in just 100 years from now, every single reader of this piece will be underground, our bodies having become part of the soil. During that time, our fate in respect to paradise or hell would have been made known to us.

Meanwhile above the soil, our houses that were left behind would have become homes for others or demolished for better structures. Our clothes would have become rags for others and replaced by more recent trends, our cars will be on display as historical artifacts by others, also replaced by more advanced technology. As for us, we will be, for the most part, never thought about by anyone again. How often do you think about your great grandfather? How often does your great grandmother cross your mind?

Our presence here on earth today, that presence that we make so much noise about and shed so many tears for, was preceded by countless generations before us and shall be followed by countless generations after us. Every generation that passes through this world barely finds the time to take a glance at the world before needing to bid it farewell and handing over the baton, having not fulfilled even a fraction of ones ambitions. Our lives are, in reality, far shorter than we imagine.

In 2119, every one of us will realise from within the grave just how worthless this world actually was, and how trivial those dreams were that centred on it.

In 2119, every one of us will be wishing that we had dedicated our lives to great matters of GOD, and devoted ourselves to doing good deeds, particularly those that continue to benefit us after our death.

In 2119, many reading this piece will be screaming out, but in vain:

“My Lord return me! So that I may do good in that which I have left behind ..”

The response to this request, however, shall be:

“No! and behind them is now a barrier until the Day they are resurrected.”

In 2119, many will be in regret, saying:

“I wish that I had prepared for my life.”

Let us become righteous, for surely what happened to those we talk of, heard of and read of will surely happen to some. In fact, personal belief in JESUS CHRIST, HIS DEATH and RESURRECTION is the only answer to this problem. I hereby humbly appeal to every honourable member of this noble platform to use this opportunity to share this important message to all his/her contacts as part of his/her personal EVANGELISM.

Stay blessed and live your life on this planet earth wisely, May the Almighty God be your immediate helper in Jesus Mighty name. Amen!

WE WILL ALL DIE SOMEDAY!

Let’s put more of our time, money and energy into serving God and helping humanity.

Happy Sunday!

Rhapsody Of Realities: Renewing The Character Of Your Mind

And be not conformed to this world: but BE YE TRANSFORMED BY THE RENEWING OF YOUR MIND, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God (Romans 12:2).

Your mind is very important. It’s the door to your spirit, and it’s also the door from your spirit out, to bring something into the natural world. The underlined portion of our opening verse tells us, “…be ye transformed (metamorphosed) by the renewing of your mind….” This means you exchange your thoughts for God’s thoughts; you cast away your carnal thinking, your fleshly ideas, and receive His glorious thoughts and ideas. The latter part of it says, “…that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

The word, “prove” is from the Greek—dokimazo—meaning to scrutinise or examine. Simply, it’s like the Customs official who’s assigned the responsibility of disallowing illegal exports and imports—interdiction of contrabands. Once he sees such, he disallows it from entering the country. That’s what that scripture is making us understand as the result of renewing the mind. You’re able to “prove,” that is, scrutinise the thoughts you allow to go through your mind, to be sure they’re consistent with God’s Word and His perfect will for your life.

Now that you’re born again, you’re required to think excellence and only see pictures of excellence. Focus your mind on things that are pure, just, honest, lovely, virtuous and of good report (Philippians 4:8). You can’t afford to continue with the old way of life; you’re different now.

Ephesians 4:22-23 says, “That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind.” It’s expressing the same thought: think and live differently now that you’re a child of God. As you do this, you’d be giving vent to the glory in your recreated human spirit; the beauty of the Spirit in you will be revealed on the outside in an ever-increasing measure. Hallelujah!

CONFESSION
I’ve been clothed with the new spiritual self, which is renewed and moulded after the image and likeness of God. I think excellent thoughts and only see pictures of excellence, success, victory and abundance! My mind is focused on things that are pure, just, honest, lovely, virtuous and of good report. Glory to God!

FURTHER STUDY:
Ephesians 4:22-24 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

Colossians 3:10 AMPC And have clothed yourselves with the new [spiritual self], which is [ever in the process of being] renewed and remolded into [fuller and more perfect [b]knowledge upon] knowledge after the image (the likeness) of Him Who created it.
