Poll: Most Churches Avoid Discussing Social Issues

Social Issues

Am not used to posting this kinda topic but it caught my eye during my research.

A Pew Research Center poll has revealed that most Christians do not hear about relevant social issues from the pulpits of their churches.

Firstthings.com reports that the poll surveyed over 4,000 churchgoers. All survey participants had attended at least one religious service within the past few months.

The poll asked respondents how often they heard about various social issues in a sermon. Only forty percent of respondents said that the pastor had spoken about religious liberty. Thirty-nine percent said that the pastor had spoken about homosexuality. And only 29 percent said they heard about abortion from the pulpit.

Because of how vocal many in the Christian community appear to be on social and political issues, these results were surprising to many.

The findings of the survey held true across denominations, including for White Evangelicals, Black Protestants, and Roman Catholics.

Possible reasons for why clergy are reluctant to discuss such sensitive social issues from the pulpit are that they are afraid of the controversy such a discussion may ignite, or they may be afraid of losing their tax-exempt status

So I throw this question to the house. Do you think social issues are rarely raised and addressed to in our churches?

Abortion—Modern Child Sacrifice? #Christian Headline #Abortion

Recently a crisis pregnancy center was visited by a church-going girl who was disappointed to find out she was pregnant. The center tried to help the girl, who was set to have twins—offering free medical care and services for her and her babies’ needs—so that she would choose life for her babies. But the problem was her due date. Rather than miss a cruise for which she had booked tickets, she chose to abort.Image result for Abortion

Not only are church-going women aborting their babies, there are abortionists today who call themselves “Christians.” How can that be? Eric Scheidler of the Pro-Life Action League is mobilizing prayer warriors to pray for three abortionists who claim to be Christians. One of those just spoke at Mississippi State University on March 1 in a speech called, “Abortion and the Christian Case for Choice.” (afanews.com, 3/2/18).

Anyone can claim to be a Christian, but that doesn’t make them so.

The thing about abortion is this: the ancient practice of child sacrifice has resumed in earnest with abortion on demand—only now it’s all hidden from our eyes. The babies are no longer sacrificed on the altars of the ancient gods Moloch and Baal. Instead, they are sacrificed on the altars of convenience or material benefits.

God said through Moses, “Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.”

In the ancient world, child sacrifice was common. For example, in what used to be Carthage (today’s Tunisia), in ancient cemeteries near pagan temples, archaeologists have unearthed bones of babies that were sacrificed. Before the Jewish conquest of the Promised Land, child sacrifice among the Canaanites was commonplace. TheHalley Bible Handbook notes “Prophets of Baal and Ashtoreth were official murderers of little children.

Perhaps the most notorious ancient god of the Ammonites was Moloch. The Zondervan Pictorial Bible Dictionary says of Moloch that he was worshiped by means of child sacrifice in “gruesome orgies”: “At least in some places an image of the god was heated, and the bodies of the slain were placed in its arms.”

Moses specifically warned the Israelites against worshiping this demon: “Do not give any of your children to be sacrificed to Moloch, for you must not profane the name of your God. I am the Lord.”

But as the Old Testament records, the ancient Hebrews were often rebellious against God and His commands. We read in Psalm 106: “They worshiped their idols, which became a snare to them. They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to false gods. They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and the land was desecrated by their blood. They defiled themselves by what they did.”

One of the worst kings of Judah was Manasseh. In 2 Chronicles 6 we read, “He sacrificed his children in the fire in the Valley of Ben Hinnom, practiced divination and witchcraft, sought omens, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the eyes of the Lord, arousing his anger.”

There’s a link to these child sacrifices and hell. How so? Quoting again from The Zondervan Pictorial Bible Dictionary says of the worship of Moloch: “its principle place of worship in and after Manasseh’s time was the valley of the son of Hinnom . . . a place of such ill repute that ‘Gehenna,’ i.e., ‘the valley of Hinnom’ became a type of hell.” When Jesus spoke of hell, the Greek word is Gehenna—as in the valley of Hinnom—the place of child sacrifice.

Children are a gift from the Lord. But some people would sacrifice their own children for their personal gods.

When I asked Eric Scheidler on my radio show about the parallel between ancient child sacrifice and modern abortion, he answered: “I think it’s extremely pleasing to the devil when an abortion takes place . . . This wickedness happens in the dark. The womb is an invisible place. We don’t see the abortion happening. Even those photographs we have [of aborted babies] are very rare. They are hard to come by. This is a hidden evil. It’s one that digs its roots so deeply in our society because it happens in secret, and so many people are complicit in it, and it gradually wears away people’s sensitivity.”

Thankfully, Christ offers His forgiveness—even for abortion. Many women who have aborted, many men who have forced their wives or daughters to abort, and many abortionists have repented and come to the Lord and have found forgiveness.

Meanwhile, let’s not kid ourselves that one can participate in performing abortions and at the same time walk in good faith with Jesus Christ, the Lord of life. Abortion is the American version of the ancient practice of child sacrifice. Moloch would be pleased.

Around The World: This Generation Can Be the One to End Legal Abortion- Mike Pence

In as much am not a Trump fan, and also not supporting some of his policies, for this to be a concern in their administration stand as a positive policy in their administration. I pray the bill is passed and the abolition is active.

According to the source, Vice President of U.S Mike Pence told a luncheon group this week that legal abortion would end in the U.S. “in our time.”

“I know in my heart of hearts this will be the generation that restores life in America,” Pence said at a Nashville luncheon hosted by the Susan B. Anthony List & Life Institute, an anti-abortion organization.

“If all of us do all we can, we can once again, in our time, restore the sanctity of life to the center of American law,” he added.

He said in President Donald Trump’s first year in office, Pence has already seen “great” moves to eliminating legal abortion.

“I see more progress in the last year in the cause of life than I have seen in public policy in all of my years,” Pence said.
Trump has signed legislation that reverses a law from Obama’s term that blocks states from defunding Planned Parenthood.

He reinstated a ban on international federal funds for global health organizations that cover or provide education on abortions.

“Let me admonish you as we go forward in this cause in 2018 to understand while we have made great progress, we have much work left to do,” Pence said.

The Trump administration has not been able to pass a law banning abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. The proposal passed in the House, but the Senate failed to approve it in January.

In his speech, Pence called Trump the “most pro-life president in American history.”

… Younger Americans, are choosing and embracing the sanctity of LIFE more and more every day, and we have to be their voice,” Pence tweeted after his speech.

News: Christian Actor Kevin Sorbo: ‘Abortion is the Definition of Evil’: Repost

Conservative Christian actor Kevin Sorbo is used to making waves for his unpopular views in Hollywood. Recently, he spoke out against abortion and Planned Parenthood.

According to LifeNews.com , Sorbo, along with his wife, Sam, wrote an op-ed published by CNSNews.com. in which he tells the true story of a woman who planned to have an abortion, but through the counsel of a friend, decided to keep her baby.

“Secular humanists have made the word abortion sound like a woman’s right, synonymous with health care, female empowerment, standing for women’s issues, a choice, a solution; anything but the truth,” Sorbo writes.

“The truth is, however, abortion is the termination of life,” he continued. “It is just a euphemism for murder because the only reason to get an abortion is to avoid the potential of birth – a human birth.”
Sorbo also compared the difference in attitude organizations like Planned Parenthood have toward human life versus, say, the preservation of sea turtle eggs.

“In some cases, disturbing the nest of a sea turtle and stealing its eggs is a crime punishable by years in prison and tremendous fines, but we have an entire industry in this nation devoted to the murder of unborn human beings.”
Wrapping up his editorial, Sorbo does not mince words:

“Barely a century after our grave and costly war against slavery, against depriving some human beings of their dignity and based solely on their skin color, we codified into law the right of the citizen to kill her progeny, based solely on its size and location, while unwittingly depriving herself of love that is pure and enduring. This is the definition of evil, pure and simple.”

What Does The Bible Say About Abortion

Abortion has become a polarizing political issue where we’ve bought into the myth that we must decide between respecting women or respecting life. It’s a fallacious argument. As a pastor, I’ve seen that abortion has a devastating impact on all those involved. The politicians and abortion providers don’t tell you about the long-lasting emotional scars, and the guttural feelings of regret and loss. Here’s the truth (Statistically and Biblically).

According to the current statistical research, approximately 25% of all women in the United States have had or will have an abortion. Approximately 25% of men have conceived a child who was aborted. That’s nearly 40 million women, 40 million men and 40 million unborn children…and counting!

It’s hard to wrap my mind around those numbers. An entire generation wiped out. It gets even more painful to think about the pregnant mothers and unborn children most at risk. According to stats, abortion is perhaps the most racist force on the planet. Planned Parenthood was started by Margaret Sanger and genocide was part of the plan. She wants to eliminate the African American race (do your own research on this and look up her quotes online). Tragically, her evil vision of “ethnic cleansing” seems to be working. Nearly 1000 African American babies are aborted every day. In New York City last year, there were more African American babies aborted than there were live births. Tragic.

I’m not going to waste your time by preaching at you with my opinions on this issue. I’m not even going to share the countless beautiful stories of life-changing adoptions I’ve seen first hand where a mother decided not to abort and gave a couple the opportunity to be parents and gave her baby the opportunity to have a full life. What a gift.

I’m not going to give you a political lecture on this issue. These issue is far too important to be defined by the talking heads on TV news stations or by the politicians lobbying for power. I humbly suggest that we return to the timeless truths of Scripture. Regardless of your faith (or lack of faith), I hope these principles will shape your own thinking on these important issues of life and death. If you’ve never before read what the Bible actually says about abortion, these facts might surprise you…

1. God’s plan for each human life starts BEFORE birth.

The Bible paints a beautiful picture of God’s delicate handiwork in the womb. We are loved by Him and He has a plan for each of us even before birth. One of the many beautiful pictures of this in the Bible is when John the Baptist “leaped inside his mother’s womb” when the news of Jesus was announced. The Bible gives countless examples of God’s unique calling on a person’s life from before their birth.

“I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb.” Jeremiah 1:5

2. Life begins at conception.

The Bible alludes to this in many way. One verse (below) refers to the Father (not the Mother) being the one who “gave life,” which is a direct reference to the moment of conception being the start of life as opposed to the moment of birth.

“Listen to your father, who gave you life, and don’t despise your mother when she is old.” Proverbs 23:22

 3. Abortion is murder*.

Abortion causes physical pain the unborn child and it literally stops a beating heart. If the end of a heartbeat marks a death, then why don’t we measure the start of a life by the beginning of a heartbeat? Even in the Bible, the intentional or unintentional killing of a “fetus” was a criminal offense. In the Old Testament, causing the death or serious injury of a pregnant mother OR an unborn child was punishable by death.

“If people are fighting and hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman’s husband demands and the court allows. But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life” Exodus 21:22-23

If YOU have had an abortion, please know that God loves you, He is for you and He desires to bring healing and hope to replace your pain. His grace is bigger than our biggest sins.

 4. EVERY life is precious to God.

In some instances, abortion has become a way of selective breeding. We terminate lives who don’t fit with our cultural preferences. For instance, children with Downs Syndrome are aborted at an alarming rate. The Bible teaches us that God values the sanctity and beauty of every human life, and we should do the same.

“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Your works are wonderful; I know that well.” Psalm 139:13

5. It’s our responsibility to speak up for the unborn.

I rarely write about anything political, because I believe the family (not the government) is the foundation for society. This is not just a political issue, but a moral outrage and we should all take action to defend the cause of the unborn. I believe we will each be held accountable by God for what we did (or didn’t do) when it came to defending the rights of the unborn. When we value the lives of the unborn, we value humanity itself. When we remain silent, we give away a part of our own humanity in the process.

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.” Proverbs 31:8

Prayer Walk Against Abortion: Repost

Was surfing the net and came across this movement against abortion outside a clinic called “Charlotte Abortion Clinic” by over 100 churches.

Just wanna share this with you guys and also support the movement out there too..

Supporters of a 40-week pro-life march that has been ongoing outside a Charlotte abortion clinic are preparing for the rally’s highlight on Saturday called Love Life Charlotte.

Organizers for the event say that as many as 7,000 people will participate in the 1.3-mile prayer walk that will circle around A Preferred Women’s Health Center of Charlotte.

The prayer walk is the culmination of a 40-week “Journey of Hope” campaign where more than 100 area churches marched in prayer walks around the clinic. Pastors also preached on some Sunday mornings at the clinic and participants fasted in prayer on Wednesdays.

“The great thing about this is it is not a single event. It is week after week of churches coming together in the public square,” Love Life Charlotte founder and Charlotte-based businessman Justin Reeder told The Christian Post on Wednesday.

“That is not happening for the most part anywhere across denominational lines. They are not coming to see a headline speaker or a band, they are going to a dark place in our city that for the most part, nobody was going to for years. It’s John 17 being played out in our city week after week.”

Reeder said in the two years since the organization launched, it has helped some 800 families reconsider their plans for abortion.

“Our frontlines ministry teams were there to counsel them and get them on the mobile unit and show them a free ultrasound and connect them with mentors and getting them connected to our partner churches,” Reeder said.

Reeder, the Benham brothers, sons of Pastor Flip Benham, and other local pastors and business leaders will speak at Saturday’s prayer walk.

“We got Episcopalians standing arm-in-arm with Baptists, who are next to charismatics, who are next to Presbyterians,” Benham said. “Just hearing these pastors talk about the incredible unity that we have had is very humbling.”

Am happy this is turning up to be a movement especially from the church. May God see the movement through and produce positive results.
