Carry Each Others Burdens “Smackdown”

I didn’t know Jesus had a law! Well, he doesn’t have a written one like we find in the old testament (II Corinthians 3).

No, His is spirit- imprinted in our hearts and transforms our character. This law gives us liberty from written law (James 2:12-17) and emphasizes the undergriding principle that guided Jesus life- sacrifice and service for others (Philippians 2:5-11).

Far more than a written law, this is a passion for Christ and a commitment to be like him.

A Quick And Easy Fix To Your Frustration

I learnt a valuable lesson yesterday reading a book titled “if not for the Grace of God ” by Joyce Meyer.

I learnt that we can’t do anything in our power to achieve what we want. I also learnt that when you focus your energy and effort into something that is doomed to failure, the only possible result is frustration. And what do we do when we frustrated, we keep up trying harder which only produces more frustration.

We don’t attempt anything without asking for God’s help. We lean on Him the whole way through each project. We maintain an attitude that says, “Apart from Him, I can do nothing”

If you are frustrated about timing, lean to pray with the psalmist, my times are in your hands… (Psalm 31:15).

Sometimes when I feel my time is wasted in a particular circumstance, either waiting to see the doctor, waiting to get an alert from the bank, bad electricity, no water and so on… Yea am not perfect and just human, I get frustrated and disgusted but after reading this inspiring book from Joyce, it changed my perspective to the way I handle my mood when frustrated.

What Can We Learn About Failure and Family From Avengers: Endgame?

This is a guest post by Tatyana Claytor.

This inspiring piece got my attention when surfing the net this morning. The creativity of this writing is too good to be true as the message is centered on Marvel “The Avengers”.

It’s easy to see how our heroes failed in Infinity War. For one, they had very little advance knowledge of their enemy. Banner’s warning to Dr. Strange and Iron Man came moments before Thanos’s henchman arrived. They are all spread out all over the world with little or no communication. Captain America and Iron Man aren’t on speaking terms. Vision and Scarlet Witch are attempting to live a normal life incognito. Banner hadn’t even been on Earth for a few years. They are divided, and this division leads to their downfall. *Spoilers ahead* if you have not watched the movie.

We see this in how they fought separated battles with Thanos instead of a unified battle. Iron Man, Spiderman, Doctor Strange, and The Guardians of the Galaxy engaged him on Thanos’s old home planet. Though they are almost successful, Quill attacks Thanos when he realizes that he killed Gamorah. This allows Thanos to come out of the Mantis-induced trance and to successfully subdue them all. Dr. Strange then gives up the time stone to save Iron Man’s life.

Back on Earth, the other Avengers are trying to save Vision’s life by removing the mind stone from his forehead to destroy it before Thanos can get it. Thanos’s army arrives, and they run out of time. Scarlet Witch destroys the mind stone, killing Vision, at his request. However, when Thanos arrives moments later, he uses the time stone to turn back time and get the stone. The other Avengers keep trying to kill Thanos before he uses the stones, and Thor with his new weapon comes closest when he slices into Thanos’s chest. Thanos does not die, though, and says that Thor should have aimed for the head instead. He snaps his fingers, disappears into a gateway, and then people begin to disappear.

Failure Divides Them

Each hero carries the weight of failure individually–Iron Man feels guilt about his young protege, Spider-Man; Thor regrets not using a more killing blow; and so on. Their guilt also separates them from each other. In Avengers: Endgame, after Iron Man and Nebula are rescued, what’s left of the team discusses their next steps. Stark, recovering from almost dying and hooked up to an IV angrily accuses Captain America of not being there. He blames him for their defeat.

All hope seems lost until Antman comes back from the Quantum realm with an idea that could give them all another chance. Later, when this new plan is birthed, Iron Man approaches Captain America with forgiveness, saying that the resentment was corrosive. This is a turning point for them as a team. While Iron Man and Captain America are divided, the Avengers are useless. Zemo’s plans begun in Civil War is a large part of their failures in Infinity War. The reversal of that division is what brings them success.

This renewed vision provides the opportunity for them to work together as a team, as a family. This is an important theme in the Avengers series. We see discussions of fatherhood with Iron Man and his father and then his own daughter. We observe Hawkeye and his devotion to his wife and children and Antman with his daughter. But we also see non-traditional families with Thor/Loki and Nebula/Gamorah), and the family of the Avengers for Black Widow. Instead, what made them a family is not blood, but rather commitment, a unified purpose, and a willingness to forgive the past.

Unity Should Be a Priority

There are obvious correlations here to the church. Our strength and success lay in our unity.  Jesus’s final prayer was for the unity of believers and not just those with him at that moment.

I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word,  that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.  The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me. John 17:20-23 ESV

Our unity is an important part of our effectiveness. If we want the world to know Jesus as Messiah, our unity or lack of unity has the potential to validate or invalidate this.  We are our own greatest enemy when we allow the same things that brought the Avengers down to bring us down:

  1. Taking failure personally and believing this disqualifies us
  2. Fostering unforgiveness towards other members of the group
  3. Allowing different perspectives to cloud our unified vision
  4. Permitting personal woundedness to distract us from our purpose
  5. Forgetting the power of family– especially chosen family

Overcoming the Enemy

We too have an enemy like Zemo whose purpose is to bring disunity and brokenness among our ranks. He knows that a broken church is a lot less effective than a unified one. He will encourage us to focus on all the ways we are personally wounded by others to get us to forget the mission set before us. Once we are divided, like the Avengers were, he can easily beat us in small skirmishes.

The only way to stop this is to recognize the temptations that beset the church and remember what we have in common–Jesus and the Gospel. This can be our rallying cry though we might differ in a million ways. Captain America and Iron Man disagreed on principles they both held dear, but they also knew they needed each other to get the job done. This trumped their personal differences. Whatever our divisive issues may be, they can never be more important than fulfilling the ministry of reconciliation with which we’ve been entrusted.

A Quick Way To Bounce Back From Disappointment

The work by Abraham Zaleznik at Harvard proved that the way you respond to disappointment is usually an accurate predictor of how likely you are to achieve great success. If you respond to disappointment by learning the very most from it and then by putting it behind and processing forward, you are very likely to accomplish great things in the course of life.

N:B: Everyone faces difficulties every step of the way. The difference between high achievers and low achievers is simply that high achievers utilize adversity and struggles for growth, while low achievers allow difficulties and adversity to overwhelm them and leave them discouraged and dejected.

So today, choose to face difficulties with a positive attitude and bounce back from disappointment.

A Short Testimony By Rick Warren (Inspirational Speaker And Author)

This testimony has blown me apart. May I live for Him alone not for the things of this world. Patiently read through….

RICK WARREN’S (BEST selling Author, Inspirational Speaker) Interview…..

Pls Read this:

This is an absolutely incredible short interview with Rick Warren,
‘Purpose Driven Life’ author and
Pastor of Saddleback Church in California.

–In the interview by Paul Bradshaw with Rick Warren,

Rick said:
–People ask me, What is the purpose of life?

–And I respond:
In a nutshell, life is preparation for eternity. We were not made to last forever, and God wants us to be with Him in Heaven.

–One day my heart is going to stop, and that will be the end of my body– but not the end of me.*

–I may live 60 to 100 years on earth, but I am going to spend trillions of years in eternity.
This is the warm-up act –the dress rehearsal. God wants us to practice on earth what we will do forever in eternity..

–We were made by God and for God, and until you figure that out, life isn’t going to make sense.

–Life is a series of problems:
Either you are in one now, OR you’re just coming out of one, OR you’re getting ready to go into another one.

–The reason for this is that God is more interested in your character than your comfort; God is more interested in making your life holy than He is in making your life happy.

–We can be reasonably happy here on earth, but that’s not the goal of life. The goal is to grow in character, in Christ likeness.

–No matter how good things are in your life, there is always something bad that needs to be worked on.

–And no matter how bad things are in your life, there is always something good you can thank God for.

–You can focus on your purposes, or you can focus on *your problems:

–If you focus on your problems, you’re going into self-centeredness, which is my problem, my issues, my pain. But one of the easiest ways to get rid of pain is to get your focus off yourself and onto God and others.

–We need to ask ourselves: Am I going to live for possessions? Popularity?

–Am I going to be driven by pressures? Guilt? Bitterness? Materialism? Or am I going to be driven by God’s purposes (for my life)?

–When I get up in the morning, I sit on the side of my bed and say, God, if I don’t get anything else done today, I want to know You more and love You better.

God didn’t put me on earth just to fulfill a to-do list. He’s more interested in what I am than what I do.

–That’s why we’re called human beings, not human doings.

–Happy moments, PRAISE GOD.
–Difficult moments, SEEK GOD.
–Quiet moments, WORSHIP GOD.
–Painful moments, TRUST GOD.
–Every moment, THANK GOD.

–If you do not pass it on, nothing will happen.

But it will just be nice to pass it on to friends…

Just like I have done now.

Mom killed my tomorrow

Dear educationists & parents, kindly permit me to share this thought-provoking confession of a student. It has one or two lessons in career guidance and parental influence. 👇🏽

They call it spiritual, They call it ethical. They call it universal, They call it motherly.
They call it usual,
They call it mutual.

Shut your eyes, and think of your tomorrow.
Shut your mouth, and speak less of sorrow.
Take a bold step, and aim forward,
You know your tomorrow.

June 1986, it all started.
In the white house of “stitches and newcomers”.
My cry filled the theater,
I was successfully born.

Dad carried me, and called me a doctor,
Mom looked at me, and called me a nurse,
Leaving me with no choice of my own.

I grew up, loving what I hate,
And forced to cherish what gives me agony.
Mom wants me to do her wish,
Dad wouldnt let go off me.

They thought they were making me better,
Rather, they were killing me within.
Call me my dad!
For he couldn’t see my future.
Call me my mom!
For killing my tomorrow.

Chemistry was made my breakfast,
And biology was made my lunch.
Physics was made my dinner

Mom scolded me for failing,
Dad blasted me for repeating.
They forgot I got an “A” in literature,
And a distinction in English.

They tore my essays, and called them trash.
They tore my poems, and swept them out.
They sold doughnuts with my storybook,
And turned my drawing book to waste papers.

They wasted their money on tutors,
And paid millions in tuitions.
They took me to the best,
While I fall behind the rest.

Suddenly! Michael gained admission.
Mom could no longer watch me, sit my bottom at home.
Special center became my home,
And expo my half brother.

At last I gained admission!
To study medicine and surgery.
Daddy was happy,
And mommy was elated.

I knew I wouldnt make it there,
I knew I was going to fail.
But mom had “long legs”,
she could not watch me fail.

I was depressed and dead within,
I smiled and laughed though.
I was not even sure of my future,
Because those I call family, tampered with it.

I did 7 courses, but happily, I passed one.
I took interest in GNS101, and got an A.
Medical courses were written in “Latin”,
Words my brain can’t comprehend.

Mom’s “long legs” pulled enough strings,
And her connection got the right people.
My results were upgraded,
And I was ironically among the best.

Years went by, with no experience.
Semesters went by, with no knowledge of medicine.
Blame me not, I have no interest.
laugh me not, mum pushed me into this.

I graduated as one of the best,
Thanks to mum’s strings.
I finally fufilled dad’s wish,
And made mom’s dream come through.

She got the name she craved “Nma Doctor”,
And the praises she had always wanted.
She was exalted as the mother of the best doctor,
Little did they know the magnitude of what she has done.

Finally, the D-day came!
The Senator was rushed into the hospital where I work,
They shouted Emergency! emergency!!
And they called me to prepare for his treatment.

With fear, I cautiously walked to his ward.
And I carefully administered formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde and methanol to the sick senator,
Little did I know the chemicals were only used in preserving the dead.

The senator was later reported dead,
And an autopsy was carried out.
They saw my flaws, and got me arrested for manslaughter,
Now I am here awaiting judgement.

The fierce looking judge had no pity,
I saw his scornful face.
Face that spelt death,
And a lip, that gives judgement.

He blamed me for my ignorance,
And sentenced me to death.
I looked at mom with regrets,
“Had she known”
Thanks mom for killing my tomorrow,
Thanks dad for sponsoring my death.

I should have resisted when I was old enough,
But my religion said “obey thy mother and thy father, so thy days may be long”

Who Else Wants To Know The Mystery Behind Staying Stable In Hard Times?

Many people have gifts and talents and are called to do great things for God. Yet He hasn’t said, “Go,” because they’re still learning how to be stable, dependable, reliable, not easily shaken, and in control of their emotions.

As Christians, we need to live the life that we claim to represent so that our gifts and talents can be released―not just for our own sake, but for the good of those around us.

I am so glad that I’m married to an understanding woman. Of all the things my wife has brought to my life, I am so grateful to her for teaching me the value of silent and stability.

Stop Making Excuses

I could get up each morning thinking I was going to have a great day, and then something would set me off. Then by 9 a.m., the rest of my day was totally ruined! But it doesn’t have to be that way. We can control ourselves, but until we believe that, nothing is going to change.

The first thing we must do is stop making excuses, like “I can’t help it. I’m just an emotional person. If you had to put up with what I have to put up with, you’d throw tantrums too!” God is never going to tell you to do something you can’t do without His help. And you can accomplish much if you learn to control your emotions.

If You Have Peace, You Have Power

Whether you like it or not, you’re in a spiritual war. Your enemy, Satan, comes against you in many ways, and he’s going to fight against you. So you need to know how to stand against him.

Philippians 1:28 (AMPC) says, “And do not [for a moment] be frightened or intimidated in anything by your opponents and adversaries, for such [constancy and fearlessness] will be a clear sign (proof and seal) to them of [their impending] destruction, but [a sure token and evidence] of your deliverance and salvation, and that from God.”

This scripture is saying that God and the devil are watching us. If we remain peaceful, the devil knows that he can’t upset us and we’re just not going to give in. But it’s also a sign to God that our trust is truly in Him.

No matter how much you say you trust God, if you’re upset all the time, then you’re not really trusting Him. And as long as you’re trying to take care of yourself, God will just stand back and say, “Let Me know when you’re ready for Me to jump in and help.”

Keeping Your Peace Brings Maturity

You and I have the privilege not only to believe in Christ but to endure a little bit of suffering while we’re waiting for His deliverance because it’s the hard times in our life that bring maturity. Every day that you stay firm in your faith and you don’t get your breakthrough, you’re growing spiritually that day.

Jesus said, “In the world, you will have tribulation.” The purpose of having faith isn’t to avoid problems but to get through them with peace and stability.

If the only time you can praise God is in the Promised Land, you have a problem. You need to praise Him in the wilderness. Actually, if you don’t praise God in the wilderness, you’ll never get to the Promised Land. We all have to do the right thing when it’s hard, when we don’t feel like doing it. That’s when we grow. (See
Exodus 14:13-14 )

Be determined to trust God. No matter what happens, hold your peace; remain at rest; keep an attitude of praise and thanksgiving; do what you can do; and keep on saying, “God is fighting for me.”

Watch What You Speak

Our mouths can sure get us into trouble, can’t they! This is especially true for someone whose heart is tainted by evil. Talk reveals so much about our interior life, and an evil person has a lot to hide! But that brings us to ourselves. What does our talk reveal about us? Does it help us escape trouble or does it reveal fastening evil in our souls.

We should watch what we speak because the tongue is powerful. There was this African Nollywood movie I watched back then, this lady was suffering, no job, no money, no friends. During this challenges in her life, she wasn’t able to take care of her sick mother. In that process she lost her mother to cancer. This made her really depressed and angry. She angrily look up to heaven and said by the time she turns 25 and she doesn’t have a change in her life, her life should be taken away from this earth. Unkowning to her the spirit of death was around parading all over the place for whom to destroy and devour. The spirit took her words and waited for 25 years later.

About a year, she got a good paying job, was leaving in a big apartment, with a good car for mobility. After 25 years, the spirit of death came knocking at her door. She had forgotten what she used her mouth to say when she was faced with multiple challenges.

What happened next ain’t a good news.

Let’s be careful and learn to speak good things to our lives and to those we care about. The best time to proclaim good things in your life is during trials and challenges.
